Modern Slavery Statement
Introduction
This Modern Slavery Statement ("Statement") is made by Industry Media Group in accordance with the Canadian Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act, the UK Modern Slavery Act, the Australian Modern Slavery Act, and the California Transparency in supply Chains Act ("the Acts"). This Statement reflects our activities and due diligence practices for the 2024 fiscal year.
Business Structure, Operations and Supply Chain
Industry Media Group is a creative agency based in British Columbia, Canada, specializing in visual storytelling, brand strategy, and multimedia production. Our services range from content creation and consulting to media production and client branding solutions.
We operate with a small internal team and collaborate with a growing network of independent contractors, creative collectives, and supplier-partners in North America and Asia. Our external partners may include photographers, video editors, sound engineers, developers, and print production vendors. While we do not own or operate physical manufacturing or distribution facilities, we recognize the potential for human rights risks within our digital and production- oriented value chain.
Governance and Responsibility
Responsibility for ethical conduct and human rights due diligence sits with the executive leadership of Industry Media Group. Risk oversight related to human rights, modern slavery, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) is embedded into our decision-making processes.
Human Rights and Supplier Policy
We are in the process of formalizing a comprehensive Human Rights and Ethical Sourcing Policy that will require all contractors to affirm their compliance with international human rights standards. The policy prohibits the use of forced, bonded, indentured, or child labour and will require vendors to cascade these expectations to any subcontractors they may use.
Partner Vetting and Engagement
Before engagement, we conduct informal due diligence through interviews, portfolio audits, and where possible, reference checks. Moving forward, we are developing a standard Supplier Questionnaire that includes ethical sourcing and labour practice disclosures.
Risk Assessment
Industry Media Group recognizes that our reliance on global vendors, including printing, merchandise production, and digital services, can introduce risks-particularly in regions where labour standards are less rigorously enforced. We aim to minimize our exposure to these risks by: Prioritizing vendors in low-risk jurisdictions where feasible.
Training and Awareness
As a small team, we prioritize continuous learning and internal discussions around ethical practices and human rights. Leadership will undertake training related to modern slavery laws and due diligence in 2025, as part of our commitment to strengthening awareness and capability.
Grievance Mechanisms
While we do not yet have a formal grievance hotline, Industry Media Group encourages all workers-internal or contracted-to report unethical behaviour. Reports can be made confidentially to senior leadership and will be investigated promptly. We are committed to protecting whistleblowers from retaliation.
Performance Monitoring and Future Commitments
In 2025, we will:
- Formalize our Human Rights Policy
- Roll out a Partner Code of Conduct
- Establish a grievance reporting protocol
- Begin conducting annual reviews of our top-tier partners for human rights risk
We are committed to continuous improvement and believe that creativity should never come at the cost of human dignity.
